As a Flight Operations Supervisor in our Spacecraft Operations Center, you will lead and manage the team performing  daiy monitoring and command functions for the ViaSat  fleet of  satellites.  You will provide leadership in the operation and management of the satellites and the daily functions of the supporting TTC ground network.

Specific responsibilities include:
  • Manage and lead a 10 person Satellite control team providing 24/7 support to ViaSat satellites. 
  • Recommend and implement efficient shift rotation.  Generate shift schedules, provide emergency coverage when required.
  • Ensure all personnel maintain qualifications to operate the spacecraft and ground system as required.
  • Develop and validate training required for the operations team and ensure all assigned personnel attend training.    
  • Ensure satellite controllers carry out the requirements for their shift.
  • Monitor all ViaSat satellites for proper operation, responding to satellite and network alarms (out of limits, status changes, control system configurations, battery charge state, etc.)
  • Responsible for range activities, scheduling and ensuring range collection along with troubleshooting range anomalies
  • Operates SatOps systems according to established procedures.
  • Executes commands on all satellites (scheduled and non-scheduled) as warranted.
  • Maintains a record of all SatOps and TTC&M Nework activities in the daily shift log.
  • Stays up-to-date on current spacecraft and ground configurations by reading shift change briefing and log every day.
  • Conducts and assists troubleshooting of Ground Network System problems
  • Leads and participates in daily operations briefings
  • Performs routine performance checks on specified software and processes
  • Participates in all scheduled training sessions.


  • 10+ years’ experience in geosynchronous communications satellite operations.
  • A minimum of a 2 year technical degree or equivalent satellite communications experience
  • General spacecraft subsystems knowledge
  • Background in COTS satellite control system operations and supporting ground network TTC&M infrastructure. 
  • Must be able to lead/mentor junior controllers in the performance of these duties.
  • US Citizenship or US Permanent Resident Status
  • Must be able to work a rotating 8 or 12-hour shift schedule to provide 24x7x365 coverage, which includes working major holidays
  • Must be available for 24/7 on-call support
  • Ability to travel up to 10%

  • BSS 702 and/or SSL 1300 background
  • Experience with the Kratos ISI EPOCH Software Suite
