RN I - Emergency Department - Full Time

JOB SUMMARY: This position is accountable for providing competent nursing care for patients with common health problems. This is an entry level position responsible for coordination of the patient's plan of care through assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of nursing interventions that lead to established outcomes. This position practices under the direction of the designated nurse executive, within the scope of the Nursing Practice Act, and in accordance with Children's policies.

The Emergency Department at Valley Children’s providesemergency pediatric and trauma care to infants, children, and adolescents(up to 21 years of age). We operate a 39-bed Level II Pediatric TraumaCenter that sees about 120,000 patient visits annually. More thantwo-thirds of the Hospital’s patients are admitted through the EmergencyDepartment. We have access to all of the Hospital’s pediatricsubspecialties and their associated physicians.

The Department is staffed by board-certified pediatric emergencyphysicians. In addition to their years of experience in providingpediatric emergency care, our emergency specialists have undergonea minimum of three years of general pediatric training plus an additionaltwo to three years of fellowship training in pediatric emergency medicine.

REQUIREMENTS: This position requires: A) a graduate from anaccredited nursing program. BSN strongly preferred; B) an active CaliforniaRegistered Nurse licensure (RN); C) Life Support Certifications (see specificsbelow); and D) experience to correlate with Clinical Ladder level. Bilingualskills desirable.

Life Support Certifications Required: 1) HeartCode Basic LifeSupport (BLS) within 30 days; 2) Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)within 12 months: Emergency; 3) Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) within12 months; 4) Emergency Nursing Pediatrics Course (ENPC) within 24 months ofhire or transfer into position; 5) Trauma Nurse Core Course(TNCC) within 24months of hire or transfer into position.

POSITION DETAILS: Full Time, 69 hours per pay period,various shifts available
