Park Maintenance Aide
- The Position
- This is a continuous filing exam, with cut-offs on the first Friday of each month. The next filing cut-offs are at 5:00 pm on:
05/03/19, 06/07/19, 07/05/19, 08/02/19, 09/06/19, 10/04/19, 11/01/19, 12/06/19
Under close supervision, Park Maintenance Aides learn to perform semi-skilled tasks and perform routine unskilled ground maintenance and related construction and repair. Incumbents receive on-the-job training in park maintenance and provide temporary help during peak workloads.
All Park Maintenance Aide positions are currently temporary intermittent positions, which are limited to 1560 hours worked per year. Park Maintenance Aides may be assigned to full-time and/or part-time hours, not to exceed 1560 hours worked.
- Examples of Knowledge and Abilities
- Read, write, speak and understand English at a level to satisfactorily perform the work
- Add and subtract whole two digit numbers
- Drive a manual transmission vehicle
- Learn work procedures
- Follow written and oral direction
- Perform varied manual tasks
- Perform light maintenance and custodial work including litter collection and trash removal, and clean restrooms
- Learn to operate power equipment
- Learn safety rules and precautions
- Learn to identify plants, shrubs and trees
- Learn to recognize common lawn pests and diseases and to apply treatments
- Learn the use and care of tools and equipment
- Employment Qualifications
There are no education or experience requirements for this class.
Minimum Age Requirement:
Applicants must be eighteen years of age prior to appointment because of the hazards of the job, as defined by the Fair Labor Standards Act.
All classes in this series require possession of or ability to obtain a valid California Driver License, Class 3 (now C) or higher, before date of appointment.
Ability to obtain a Class 1 (now A) or 2 (now B) California Drivers License may be required of some jobs.
Incumbents must be willing to work on weekends, evenings and holidays, to work outdoors in all kinds of weather, and to work at various locations throughout the County.
Persons appointed to this class MAY be subject to a confidential criminal history check and fingerprinting.
The probationary period for this classification is six (6) months.

FORMULA RATE EXAMINATION (Weighted 100%)
All candidates meeting the minimum qualifications by the cut-off date will have their Supplemental Questionnaire scored in the Formula Rate Examination.
This examination will evaluate the relevance, level, recency, progression and quality of candidate's education, training and experience. The candidate's application or other materials will not be included in this examination. Therefore, the candidate's responses to the supplemental questionnaire should be thorough, detailed and complete. The score from the Formula Rate Examination will determine the ranking on the eligible/employment list for this job.
All candidates competing in the testing process will receive written notice of their examination results by email. Notices can also be accessed in their governmentjobs.com inbox. Applicants achieving a passing score will be placed on the eligible list in rank order. The rank is determined by the test score attained from the examination.
