The Walk With Me Program Manager will be responsible for administering a county-wide outreach initiative for the San Diego Rescue Mission. The program involves training volunteers within the local Church to come alongside those currently experiencing homelessness in a one-on-one relationship over an extended period of time to guide them to the best possible resources and a more fulfilling way of life.

You are a visionary who wants to be a part of a ground-floor movement of God’s people serving and caring for those in need – including those who live on the streets, in local shelters or in low-income housing with minimal support. You see the potential behind every man, woman and child -- regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, or background -- to rise above their circumstances and live life to the full. As the Walk With Me Program Manager, you will cultivate relationships with local churches, social service agencies, homeless ministries, WWM area ambassadors and other volunteers, as well as the people we aim to bless. In essence, you will be the link to connect hundreds of people in need with the friends and resources required to move them forward in their journey to health and wholeness.

About the Church Partnership Team The Church Partnership Team at the San Diego Rescue Mission is a high-energy, outward-focused team of individuals that recognizes our relationships with churches as a two-way partnership. We encourage pastors and their members to engage with the work God is doing to transform lives at the Mission on multiple levels through giving, serving, teaching, donating goods, etc. We help the churches educate their congregations on the homeless crisis and how they can respond to Christ’s call for us to love, care for and guide those experiencing homelessness in our midst. Individuals who apply for this position should enjoy a team atmosphere and have strong communication skills, but also be highly organized and able to successfully manage their own workload with ease. At the Rescue Mission we believe this is more than a job – rather it’s a calling to love our neighbors and those in need the way that Jesus would. The right person will have a strong calling to serve God and their community well.

Help Develop and Administer a County-Wide Training Program · Utilizing existing framework, help develop a multi-faceted, eight-module training program for ambassadors and other volunteers for use live, online and in print · Gain familiarity with the online training platform and work with the outside specialist to pull it all together· Incorporate relevant video segments (such as interviews with experts) from local service agencies and other outside resources to enhance the training · Understand the Person-Centered Plan and assist in adapting it for the homeless population and incorporating it into the training materials · Assist in identifying, training and managing area ambassadors throughout the county · Help ambassadors set up informational meetings in the ten County areas · Monitor progress of ambassadors/volunteers throughout online training and provide assistance/clarification/communication as needed · Help arrange pairings and set up initial meetings with volunteers and participants · Manage forum for receiving feedback from volunteers and incorporate feedback into ongoing training · Help develop/update/manage Power Point presentations, handouts, and handbook.

Cultivate Relationships with Local Service Providers and Homeless Ministries · Research and assist in making connections with county-wide service agencies, including NAMI Clubhouse, PATH, Veterans Village, Alpha Project, Lucky Duck food distribution, Ladle Fellowship, local church homeless ministries and others · Participate in outreach efforts alongside these agencies/ministries to identify those desiring/needing individualized care through a long-term WWM friendship · Assist with arrangements for volunteers to visit one or more of these agencies/ministries before they enter Walk With Me training program · Maintain updated information on all relevant agencies and services they offer so volunteers can steer participants to appropriate resources · Train agencies on how to register new participants and communicate guidelines

Cultivate Relationships with Church Partners and Area Ambassadors · Create a church presentation on WWM, the Church/WWM relationship, the profile of a WWM ambassador/volunteer and the recruitment/training/pairing process · Work with Director of Church Partnerships to set up informational meetings with key church contacts who will champion Walk With Me and help recruit volunteers · Communicate with churches on an ongoing basis with updates and needs · Support the area ambassadors

Manage Registration Process/Database for Volunteers & Participants · Help manage registration process from all sources and automate wherever possible · Help develop and maintain a database for tracking progress of existing and potential pairings (using SDRM’s web-based software) · Personally visit agencies and areas on the street where the homeless gather to find people who would like to be paired with a Walk With Me volunteer

Be a Resource for WWM Pairings, Answering Questions & Providing Updates Assist with Special Events, Marketing, and Promotional Materials · Set-up, organize and maintain a central location for all Walk With Me materials · Help coordinate quarterly large group meetings for volunteers and participants · Assist with social media, web site content, display materials and fliers/brochures · Be on the lookout for God stories that can be used to promote the program

Skill / Requirements

Requirements/Skills: Lived experience on the streets required. Street outreach experience preferred. Understanding the root causes of homelessness, including mental illness, addiction and trauma required. Some experience in an office or admin setting (corporate, church, or non-profit) preferred. Training or facilitating experience preferred. Proficiency in Word, Outlook, Excel and Power Point. Outgoing, organized, detail-oriented, fast learner, confident communicator, creative problem solver. Church ministry, social media and basic graphic design experience a plus.

This position is a full time exempt position, eligible for benefits, employer pays 85% of medical, also included employer paid life/ADD and disability plan, vacation, holidays and sick pay.  Affordable dental, vision, voluntary benefits for life/ADD and a 403B savings plan, employee responsible for premiums.
