The California Institute for Biomedical Research (Calibr) is a not-for profit research institute located in La Jolla, California. Calibr is focused on innovative early stage translational research in the areas of regenerative medicine, cancer biology, cardiovascular and metabolic disease, immunology and infectious disease.

Position Overview:
This position will work as part of a small team of interdisciplinary scientists to translate novel protein and cellular therapies for the treatment of cancer into human clinical trials. Specifically, this position will be responsible for analytical development on protein and cellular products as they move through early stage development and into clinical trials. The Senior or Principal Scientist will be an integral team member on Calibr’s novel universal, switchable CAR-T cell program and will work closely with research scientists in cellular immunotherapy and protein chemistry.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
* Analytical development for protein therapeutics in support of IND-enabling studies for Phase I clinical trials.
* Collaborate closely with research scientists in upstream and downstream development and with protein production scientists
* Hands on wet-lab experiments including but not limited to: AnSEC, RP-HPLC, HR-MS, LCMS-QTOF, UV-Vis, AEX and flow cytometry.
* Design, carry out, and report methods qualifications related to a diverse and challenging collection of novel protein therapeutics and cell therapies.
* Preparation and authoring of detailed reports for regulatory filings.
* Work with CRO/CMOs to tech transfer methods.

Basic Qualifications:

* Extensive expertise in state-of-the-art analytical techniques for biologics product such as HPLC/UPLC and/or Capillary Electrophoresis is required.
* Knowledge of compliance and quality management systems is strongly preferred.
* Experience in method qualification/validation and equipment qualification is essential.
* Knowledge of cell therapies is preferred but not essential.
* Experience with molecular biology techniques is required.
* Knowledge of protein expression systems, protein handling, and analysis is required.
* Experience with flow cytometry analytical development is preferred but not required.
* Experience in preparation of documents for IND filings preferred.
* Experience using Prism, FlowJo (for flow analytical dev), and Office software is important.

* MS or PhD in biology, chemical biology, biochemistry or related area with 8-12+ years’ experience in industry (Minimum 5+ years in biologics)
* Impeccable attention to detail, and excellent ability to perform hands on experiments, research, design, and organize project designs and maintain detailed documentation.
* Highly motivated, creative, and devoted to project goals.
* Able to collaborate proficiently and communicate effectively with colleagues and management teams.
* Able to contribute in a meaningful way to scientific discourse.
