With the assistance of AmeriCorps National Service members and in collaboration with other HFHGS Leadership Team members, the Homeowner Services Manager leads the successful overall operations of our Homeownership and Home Repair programs; guiding our homeowner and family partner selection processes in compliance with Equal Housing Lender laws and regulations, creating and implementing financial literacy and homeownership education programs, and providing resources and support for past, current, and prospective HFHGS partners. The Homeowner Services Manager represents the heart of our organization – developing and nurturing ongoing community relationships, acting as the in-house advocate and communication resource for homeowners and family partners, and empowering the individuals and communities we serve to encourage greater confidence, self-sufficiency, and financial stability through homeownership and partnership with our organization.
Areas of Responsibility
Family Partner and Homeowner Outreach and Selection:
  • Coordinate and oversee all outreach and recruitment for new home ownership and home repair programs; ensure outreach and application access is broad-reaching and inclusive of the various populations, demographics, and communities eligible for our services
  • Collaborate with Development Department to create a marketing strategy and materials for the recruitment of applicants which meets Equal Housing Opportunity, Fair Credit Act, and Habitat for Humanity International (HFHI) requirements
  • Direct AmeriCorps National Service Members and other volunteers in facilitating orientations, application acceptance and triage processes, and applicant communications
  • Maintain and enforce confidentiality policies and diligence in documenting communications with inquiries and applicants; adhere to required guidelines and timelines for follow-up and acceptance/denial notifications
  • Review all applications for completion and accuracy and hold meetings with applicants to review required materials including financial documents, consumer reports, and personal statements; confirm applicants meet all HFHGS/HFHI partnership requirements prior to providing to Homeowner Selection Committee or Leadership Team for further review
  • Participate in applicant home visits with Homeowner Selection Committee members and Construction Department team members as needed, according to program requirements
  • Provide support, training and guidance to the Homeowner Selection Committee and Board of Directors in cooperation with CEO and COO, ensuring Committee and Board members are educated on the most current Equal Housing Opportunity laws, HFHGS policy and operations, and are objective in their review and selection processes
Family Partner and Homeowner Support:

Guide partner families through all aspects of pre-homeownership expectations; management of sweat equity scheduling, tracking, and reporting, monthly financial reporting, completion of homeowner education and financial empowerment courses, and other various

HFHGS requirements
  • Work with Construction team to create and communicate scopes of work and project scheduling for home repair partners; review scope of work with homeowner and facilitate completion of Homeowner Agreement and Certificate of Completion, coordinate execution of note and deed of trust with Finance Department
  • Create homeownership and financial education programs for family partners, homeowners, and community members covering topics including home maintenance, understanding insurance and warranties, financial management and planning, and community engagement
  • Work with Finance Department in managing mortgage and payment communications including delinquency/collection mailings and follow-up calls, home visits, and financial eligibility reassessments
  • Implement and maintain case management program for financial and other homeownership related counseling and coaching for existing home owners, family partners, and community members interested in home ownership
  • Work with Finance Department on mortgage funding and communications with family partners and homeowners:
  • Liaise with third-party lenders, title company, and grant providers to complete loan application and closing documents in a timely fashion
  • Advise family partners on financial preparation and maintenance to facilitate smooth closing process
  • Maintain proper TRID and FCRA timelines and disclosure requirements
  • Communicate and collaborate with other HFHGS team members regarding issues or concerns family partners or homeowners raise about construction, home repair, volunteers, or other HFHGS-related program or service
  • Mentor homeowners and encourage their involvement in HFHGS special events, conferences, dedications and media interviews
  • Maintain homeowner files and collaborate with Finance Department to retain and organize documents according to affiliate policy, grant requirements, and mortgage lending requirements
  • Assist and help facilitate homeowner warranty and maintenance concerns along with Construction Department
  • Community Outreach and Relationship Development:
  • Build and nurture ongoing relationships with other non-profit organizations, faith-based groups, and social organizations to help further our mission and to support collaborative efforts to elevate Sacramento and Yolo County communities
  • Support and participate in special events, particularly wall-raising and new home dedications
  • Work with Development Department on creation of family partner and homeowner stories
  • Serve on or participate in at least one community organizing/advocacy committee outside of HFHGS
Required Qualifications:  A successful individual in this role will have a comprehensive understanding of the experiences and challenges of living in sub-standard housing and/or disadvantaged communities. A significantly developed sense of empathy and compassion is essential in this position; this team member must also be adept at maintaining boundaries and adhering to policy and legal mandate. Other key attributes include exceptional time management skills, superior organization, and the ability to take initiative. Homeowner Services Manager must maintain confidentiality and professionalism in sensitive communications. In addition to advanced verbal communication skills, a successful candidate should possess outstanding writing, editing and proofreading skills. Microsoft Office Suite applications, Adobe Acrobat Pro, PowerPoint, and Excel are essential. Must be a proficient typist and have experience with database management.  The right candidate will be able to communicate and work seamlessly with other employees, volunteers, donors, board members, family partners/homeowners, and the public.
