Job Description / Essential Elements:

POSITION DESCRIPTION

Under the supervision and guidance of the College, Career and Economic Development Department, plan and implement learning activities that support Fontana Unified School Districts Aviation program at A.B. Miller High School. The CTE Aviation Teacher will be the primary instructor for students to receive training in the aviation industry. The teacher accomplishes this by providing students with a program of study that teaches required program skills, develops employability skills, and reinforces academic skills through use of rigorous curricula. The Teacher will also handle all responsibilities associated with the high- tech RedBird Flight Simulator Laboratory. The teacher will be teaching Fundamentals of Aviation and Aviation Pilot Ground.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and implement lessons to teach skills required for students to master competencies  
  • Provide group and individual instruction utilizing effective teaching strategies, aids and equipment
  • Evaluate students’ skills and job readiness competencies, and maintain accurate student records
  • Maintain liaison with the FAA, local airports, technical training programs and industry stakeholders
  • Manage classroom in a manner conducive to learning
  • Participate in demonstrations, extra-curricular activities, community awareness/education programs, and other activities to further promote the program or school
  • Develops and adapts instructional materials and experiences to meet individual students needs, aptitudes, and interests
  • Attend workshops and trainings that will support students with required industry skills
  • Plan and conducts appropriate educational field experiences
  • Teaches and enforces safety practices required for the classroom and industry
  • Work effectively as part of a team
  • Collaborate in planning process for modifications in curriculum
  • Assist students in developing an individualized learning plan to prepare for employment, advanced training, or career advancement
  • Participate actively in subject matter industry advisory committee
  • Keep abreast of current aviation practices, technology and training methods
  • Assist in College and Career Readiness activities
  • Accurately report student attendance and submit reports in a timely manner
  • Ensures Students participate in a student led organization (i.e. Skills USA)
  • Perform other duties as required

DESIRED:

    • Certified Flight Instructor (CFI) or Certified Flight Instructor instrument CFII
    • Remote pilot operator with flight simulators
    • Bachelors or Masters Degree in Aviation or Aerospace Science

      QUALIFICATIONS:

      Credentials and experience:

      • Possession of or eligibility for the appropriate Career Technical Education or Designated Subjects Credential
      • For verification of eligibility, the following must be submitted with application:
        • Verify three years of work experience directly related to each subject.  One year equals 1,000 clock hours.
        • May substitute 48 semester units of postsecondary vocational coursework related to the subject for a maximum of two of the three years of work experience. Additionally, one of the following may be used as one year of work experience toward meeting the three years of required experience:
          • Possession of an advanced industry certificate related to the industry sector to be named on the preliminary credential, as determined by a Commission-approved CTE program sponsor
          • One year of full-time general education teaching experience providing instructional services in preschool or grades K-12 earned in a public or private school of equivalent status
        • At least one year of the required work experience must be within the last five years immediately preceding the issuance of the credential.
      • High School Diploma or equivalent
      • Valid Drivers’ License
      • EL Authorization

          Requirements for Applying

          Possession of or eligibility for the appropriate Career Technical Education or Designated Subjects Credential. Must have a CTE credential in Transportation. Focus must be on Aviation and knowledge of flight simulation software (Red Bird). This position will be at AB Miller High School after school approx. 3pm to 5:30pm Tuesday and Thursday. Days and times may expand in the future based upon school and program needs.
