Job Description

Position Summary:

Archaeological monitor serving in a field position engaged in archaeological and cultural resource projects throughout California.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Conducts archaeological monitoring as assigned as part of a project.

2. Completes daily reporting logs and contributes to monthly reports

3. Occasional writing regarding findings.

4. Assists in report preparation.

Other duties may be assigned; this is not intended to be an exhaustive list of duties and responsibilities.

Job Requirements:

1. A B.S. or B.A. degree in anthropology, archaeology, historical archaeology, or a related field, and one year experience monitoring in California; or An A.S. or A.A. degree in anthropology, archaeology, historical archaeology, or a related field, and four years experience monitoring in California; or Enrollment in upper division classes pursuing a degree in the fields of anthropology, archaeology, historical archaeology, or a related field, and two years of monitoring experience in California.

2. Must be willing to travel locally to conduct field work.

3. Must be familiar with the use of hand-held sub-meter GPS units

4. Strong oral and written communication skills.

1. Quality and productivity in execution of duties and responsibilities, as outlined above.

2. Demonstrated innovation in developing solutions to projects.

3. Communication and teamwork skills as exhibited on projects.

4. Successful progression and achievement towards goals set forth at beginning of evaluation period.

Other job specifications:

- Part-time variable position employed on an as-needed basis

- Primary duty will be archaeological monitoring of project construction for desert projects throughout Southern California (Mojave and Colorado Deserts)

- Must be willing to travel and potentially spend up to several weeks/months in desert environments

- Other duties may include office and/or lab work associated with cultural resource management

- Project expenses will be reimbursed
