Job Description

Position Summary:

As an integral part of AECOM's regionally successful and steadily expanding restoration ecology and watershed planning practice, the Restoration Ecologist manages projects related to ecological restoration, providing both project management and technical expertise. He/she will manage a staff and serve as a mentor to more junior staff within the studio.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Provide project management, including ensuring projects stay on schedule, staff management, and budget and financial management.

2. Work will include landscape-level restoration and watershed planning, site-specific restoration design, natural resources management, conservation planning, and regulatory analyses for projects.

3. May conduct biological impact analyses using CEQA and NEPA, and other relevant federal and state regulations, on a variety of natural resources-related, urban development, and municipal projects.

4. Conducts client presentations.

5. Ensures quality of final products/reports to be delivered to client.

6. Solve complex issues related to ecological restoration, conservation planning, watershed planning, and/or natural resources planning.

7. Play an integral in marketing and business development efforts in pursuit of new projects.

8. Client management to ensure client satisfaction.

Job Requirements:

1. Bachelor s degree in Ecological Restoration or a related field (i.e., Biological Sciences, Watershed Planning, Natural Resources Management, Hydrology and Geomorphology).

2. Masters degree preferred.

3. Applied restoration ecology experience is required.

4. Interest/training in one or more of the related disciplines: stream or riparian restoration, landscape ecology, wetland and fluvial ecology, forestry, watershed planning, environmental engineering, invasive species, natural area recreation, agricultural systems, natural resource/social systems economics, natural resources management, regulatory/permitting, GIS, community planning, "green"/sustainable community planning, and public meeting facilitation.

5. Generally requires 4 to 8 years experience in a similar capacity.

6. Consulting experience is strongly preferred, but non-consultant candidates with relevant experience will be considered.

7. Experience with local (California) flora and fauna is required.

8. Knowledge of relevant state and federal regulations, including NEPA, CEQA, and ESA.

9. Prior consulting experience strongly preferred, but non-consultant candidates with relevant experience will be considered.

10. Detail-oriented.

11. Excellent communication and writing skills are a must.
