Since 1969, San Ysidro Health Center (SYHC) has been providing quality, low-cost, primary health care services to South Bay & Central/Southeastern San Diego residents. SYHC offers an extensive array of family-oriented primary health care services, including pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, adult medicine, dental care, mental health, podiatry, radiology, laboratory, and pharmacy. Summary:
Provides total patient care using basic nursing principles, including rehabilitation and preventative nursing.
Essential Functions of the Job:
1. Provides direct patient care, monitors medical condition and consults with physicians.
2. Assists physicians with special procedures such as spinal tap and suturing of lacerations or other minor surgery.
3. Screens patients and maintains patient records and charts to ensure an accurate record of the patient's medical treatment. Prepares written documents as required by department and profession.
4. Prepares, hangs, monitors and discontinues I.V. fluids. Administers medications by all routes (except I.V. push) including allergens and I.P.P.B. treatment.
5. Orders and interprets specific laboratory tests, patient histories; administers vaccines, applies TB skin test and makes appropriate referrals based on findings.
6. Performs counseling, after care instruction and health teaching.
7. Maintains medical samples and equipment orderly and properly labeled.
8. Assists unit coordinator in coordination of medical services to all patients.
Skills / Requirements
Education Required: Graduate of an accredited school of
nursing. Preferred: Bachelor's Degree.
Certifications/Licenses Required: Current RN and driver's license. CPR certification. Preferred: I.V. Certification
Experience Required (Minimum level of experience): 2 years of experience in medical-surgical Outpatient nursing or specialty area. Preferred: EKG techniques, IV therapy and IPPB.
Excellent fluent written and verbal communication skills. Bilingual (Spanish-English).
Equipment Used: Crash Cart, O2 Tank, I.V. pump
