Since 1969, San Ysidro Health Center (SYHC) has been providing quality, low-cost, primary health care services to South Bay & Central/Southeastern San Diego residents. SYHC offers an extensive array of family-oriented primary health care services, including pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, adult medicine, dental care, mental health, podiatry, radiology, laboratory, and pharmacy. We encourage all patients to actively participate in promoting and protecting their own health. Toward this goal, SYHC offers a variety of free health education programs.

SYHC is dedicated to providing excellence in health care services and programs for all people of all ages - from infants to seniors. We currently have an openings for a Medical Assistants at our our Otay Family Health Center, main SYHC clinic as well as in our Optometry and HIV Departments. Please specify which department you are interested in working.

Summary:
Processes patients, answers telephones, processes daily referrals and performs phlebotomy. Administers injections and oral medications. Assists with some procedures. Performs wide variety of patient care activities and accommodative services for assigned clinic patients as directed by Nursing Supervisor.

Main Duties:

1. Facilitates patient flow by making patients charts provider ready.


2. Takes vital signs and documents patients chief complaints.


3. Gowns and drapes patient for exam rooms as applicable.


4. Provides back-up teaching on after care instruction, health teaching, new family planning patients and counseling in pregnancy testing programs as assigned.


5. Prepares and obtains lab specimens.


6. Performs venipuncture and skin punctures using aseptic technique and in accordance with department procedures.


7. Provides injections and administers oral medications.


8. Performs procedures such as assisting with suturing, inhalation treatments, EKG, etc.


9. Provides coverage at all sites as needed.


10. Provides translation, verbal or written as is necessary.


11. Assists with all patient referrals.


12. Sterilizes instruments.


13.Performs follow-up on abnormal lab as instructed.


14. Answers, screens and directs phone calls into department as needed.

Skills / Requirements

Required:
High school diploma or GED;
MA certificate;
Curent CPR Certified (Healthcare Provider);
CA driver's license with car insurance coverage;
Experience in outpatient setting or specialty area;
Knowledge of medical terminology and coding;
Bilingual (English/Spanish).
