The Manager Healthcare Economics manages a highly effective team in the collection and transformation of data into purposeful information. The purpose of this position is to maximize and sustain business success through the disciplined use of facts, data, and statistical analyses that enable the Medical Informatics department to support, improve, and lead the re-engineering of critical business processes.

This position primarily interacts with UnitedHealthcare Clinical Services, Affordability teams, the Lines of Service, and regional leadership to ensure a high level of customer satisfaction and to identify ways to improve the quality and affordability of healthcare. The focus of this position includes, but is not limited to, appropriate utilization, cost reduction, quality improvement, market-share growth, and customer retention.

Key job responsibilities include:


  • Coach, mentor, and develop programmer-analyst staff

  • Provide guidance and expertise on analytical concepts and computing techniques to staff

  • Provide leadership and take accountability for the performance of programmer analysts

  • Perform data analytics to support the strategic and operational alignment of segments and acquired entities

  • Develop plans to meet short and long-term objectives, monitoring and ensuring quality results

  • Build and sustain a high-performing organization including: recruitment, retention, performance management, and recognition

  • Partner with appropriate resources to recruit, develop, and manage a high caliber workforce with minimal turnover

  • Maintain a positive work environment that supports high performing teams and rewards people based on performance

  • Provide ongoing communications on project status, results, and conclusions from analysis

Skills / Requirements




Required:


  • Bachelor's degree

  • Minimum 4-5 years experience in data analytics

  • Minimum 4-5 years experience programming in SAS (PC or UNIX)

  • Team lead, supervisory, or management experience

  • Exceptional analytic and critical thinking skills, written and verbal communication skills, and consulting skills.

  • Ability to lead analyses and direct, motivate, and organize teams

  • Analytical thinker and team player with the ability to multi-task several priorities simultaneously


Preferred:

  • Master's or Ph.D. in a health care related field

  • Healthcare data analysis

  • Experience analyzing very large datasets

  • In depth understanding of some of the following: health care industry, health insurance, medical practice, population and disease management, health care data including medical coding and billing, health care administration, program evaluation methods and outcomes measurement, research design and advanced statistical methods

  • Experience with analytical manipulation and interpretation of large healthcare databases
