St. Paul strives to be THE most outstanding and innovative provider of senior services and housing in California. A leading multi-level provider since 1960 we are recruiting for 2 Temporary Maintenance Engineers. This assignment is estimated to last about 3 months.

We are centrally located in Bankers Hill in walking distance to Balboa Park, minutes from the Embarcadero, Gaslamp Quarter, Little Italy and easy access to I-5, 163 and 8.

The Maintenance Engineer is responsible for the facility being maintained in good repair at all times. Both the interior and the exterior surfaces, fixtures, and mechanical systems maintenance are the responsibility of the Engineer, as assigned, whether in the Manor, Tower, MFHC, Villa or CCC. Quality workmanship is a priority in all facilities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Maintains all interior fixtures in good repair, including walls, woodwork, handrails, nurse‚s call system, light fixtures, intercom systems, CCTV, etc.

Maintains plumbing, electrical, HVAC, systems according to established procedures, manufacturer‚s instructions, federal, state, and local regulations.

Troubleshoots failures in plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and appropriate ventilation systems as assigned.

Keeps maintenance log, for facility assigned, up to date by completing and noting routine maintenance checks including, as required: running the emergency generator, fire alarm system, water temperatures, checks, lubricates, and cleans facility equipment as per PM work orders assigned by computer, call lights, and cleans/replaces filters on ventilation systems as assigned.

Keeps the exterior of building in good repair, including: annual painting as required, repair s of walkways, lighting, railings, etc.

Performs general repair including, but not limited to: broken windows, handrails or grab bars, furniture, wheelchairs, repairs assigned by computer work orders, etc.

Keeps maintenance shop, storage areas, immediate work area, neat, clean, and orderly, maintaining inventory in proper bins/locations.

Maintains tools, equipment, and two-way radio in good working condition.

Carries emergency pager during off hours as scheduled and possess reliable transportation.

Maintains a clean and neat appearance.

Is considerate and respectful of residents and staff while performing maintenance tasks.

Wears clean uniforms, provided by St. Paul‚s, at all times and wears proper non-slip sole work shoes/boots that are supplied by employee.

Completes all jobs in a professional, safe manner.

Attends and participates in-service training and educational seminars as directed.

Reviews MSDSs on a regular basis for understanding, proper use and control if required.

Performs other duties as may be assigned.

Skills / Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Must be able to perform a variety of maintenance tasks, including all of the above fields. Must be able to work independently and take instructions as needed. Must be able to troubleshoot mechanical or electrical faults in facility‚s systems for which qualified. Required to read, speak, and write English. Must enjoy and be able to work in a senior citizen environment. Must be able to read blueprints. Must be able to act as temporary Maintenance Supervisor as needed.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: Must have a high school diploma or equivalent. Trade school courses preferred. 4 years minimum experience in general maintenance including the following fields: painting, tile, drywall, carpentry, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, appliances. Journeyman level expertise in at least 2 of the above trades.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Able to lift/move 50 lbs. - 80 lbs. Using proper lifting techniques. Able to regularly lift and carry objects weighing 50 lbs. Able to maneuver tools, equipment, cart through halls, up and down ramps, in and out of elevators safely. Able to bend, squat, and stoop to floor level. Able to reach heights from 5 to 10 feet with appropriate aid of ladder and reach overhead. Spend 60% of day walking, 28% standing, and 12% sitting. Must be able to climb stairs.
