MAINTENANCE ELECTRICIAN
Definition
Under direction, to install, service, and maintain electrical wiring systems and
equipment; and to do related work as required.
Essential Functions
**Installs conduits, transformers, traffic signals, airport signaling systems, pull boxes,
and switches.
**Services, repairs and fabricates pumps, motor controls, distribution systems, alarm
systems and various other types of electrical equipment and apparatus.
**Repairs and replaces broken or defective parts in motors, switches and fixtures.
**Tests, locates and repairs trouble in electrical circuits and equipment.
**Replaces fuses and incandescent and florescent lights.
**Plans electrical systems.
**Reads blue prints and compiles material lists.
**Prepares drawings, sketches and job specification for electrical work.
**Coordinates with and inspects the work of contractors.
**Supervises and trains helpers.
**Trains staff in safe operations of electrical systems and equipment.
Other Functions
**Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Employment Standards
Any combination of training and experience equivalent to completion of the eighth
grade and four years of experience under a journey electrician
OR
an apprenticeship
certificate provided by the electrician's union.

Possession of a valid Class III California Driver's License prior to the time of
appointment is required.
Knowledge of: the theory of electricity, the practices, tools, equipment, and
materials used in the electrical trade, the installation, operation, and maintenance of
electrical equipment, apparatus, and instruments; the laws rules and standards pertaining
to electrical construction and maintenance, and of the hazards involved in working around
energized lines and equipment.
Ability to: read and interpret electrical plans and diagrams of electrical circuits; plan
electrical wiring systems, read blueprints and compile material lists, and understand and
follow oral and written instructions.
