GENERAL FUNCTION:
The Beehive Project is a National HIV Behavioral Surveillance (NHBS) funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, California State Office of AIDS, funded project. The study is conducted in over twenty cities in the United States with the highest HIV prevalence. The Beehive Project administers a community health survey to San Diego residents to find out about our local health needs. Participants are asked to complete a health survey and take a free, anonymous and confidential, HIV test. The data gathered from these surveys is sent directly to the federal government which in turn determines how to fund local health jurisdictions for HIV prevention based on behavioral trends. The Data Analyst position is responsible for consolidating local data files, ensuring data quality, data entry and submission to the Data Coordinating Center (DCC) Data Portal, summary tables as requested by the State Office of AIDS, and communicating data issues.
Skills / Requirements
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
* EDUCATION: A qualified candidate will have obtained the following requirements:
-A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university in Public Health, Public Administration, Sociology, Anthropology, or other related field;
* EXPERIENCE: At least two (2) years of full-time employment in the field of HIV or Public Health; or Masters Degree in Public Health, Public Administration, Sociology, Anthropology, or other related field from an accredited university. Experience in data management and running data analysis required.
* COMMUNICATION / LANGUAGE: Bilingual/Bicultural preferred.
* COMPUTER SKILLS: Ability to understand and use a variety of computer applications and appropriate software which includes spreadsheets and word processing, workplace electronic technology, including Internet access, networking, and e-mail and the ability to learn to use additional programs such as the Questionnaire Development System (QDS), data analysis through SAS, and the VDTS program;
* CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES: HIV testing/counseling certification highly desired;
* PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Requires prolonged or frequent standing, bending, stretching, reaching, lifting and sitting; must be able to lift up to 30 lbs; requires use of fine motor skills and frequent use of close and distance vision;
* MENTAL DEMANDS: Requires the ability to read and interpret data, apply problem solving skills, use of data management and analysis applications and reasoning, ability to multi-task; and demonstrated ability to build relationships with community members and have comfort dealing high-risk populations, including, but not limited to, men who have sex with men, injection drug users, and heterosexuals at increased risk.
