Jobing Description




The Healthcare Economics Consultant researches and investigates business problems through quantitative analysis using healthcare cost and utilization data. This position also conducts the on-going presentation of analysis results and findings to support healthcare business operations, performance and improvement.


Key responsibilities include:


- Works with less structured data, and recognizes data patterns and potential issues and makes recommendations

- Proactively discovers potential areas for medical cost improvement and management/healthcare initiative strategies

- Performs data cleaning, preparation, reporting, and analysis
- Leverages existing and ad-hoc reporting capabilities to identify trends in health plan performance and opportunities for medical expense reduction
- Performs data extraction, aggregation, and quality checking from multiple sources and tables in support of trend identification, root cause analysis, affordability initiative development, and validation/measurement of medical expense reduction initiatives
- Provides consultative advice and interprets and summarizes analytical findings
- Researches, identifies, and implements new approaches and methods to facilitate medical cost management.
- Collaborates within and outside the Medical Informatics department, UHC, and UHG to lead the development and continuous improvement of methods, processes, and technologies to enhance healthcare quality, affordability, outcomes, and member/provider experience
- Generally work is self-directed, and serves as a resource to others

Skills / Requirements





Required:



- Bachelor's degree
- Health Care industry experience

- Industry experience in SAS programming (PC or UNIX)
- Minimum 3 years experience in healthcare data analytics

- Proficient with MS Excel
- Experience analyzing very large datasets and working with relational databases

- Ability to be flexible and adaptable in a fast paced environment

- Must be self-motivated and detail-oriented

- Ability to work with minimal guidance


Preferred:

- Master's degree or Ph.D. in a health care related field, economics, or social science
