The Art Institute of California - Hollywood, a Los Angeles based design college is one of the Art Institutes, America's leader in post secondary career-oriented education for the creative arts. We offer degree programs in Interior Design, Fashion Design, Graphic Design, Web Design & Interactive Media, Set & Exhibit Design, Game & Art Design, Digital Photography, Media Arts & Animation, Digital Film & Video, Game Art & Design, Industrial Design, and Visual Effects & Motion Graphics. Our school is located in a new complex in the arts district of North Hollywood near Lankershim and Magnolia.
The Art Institute of California - Hollywood is looking for part-time instructors to teach in the Graphic Design program for our Fall Quarter which starts October 3, 2011. We have need for qualified instructors to instruct classes in Adobe Flash, Adobe Photoshop, Digital Illustration, Typography, and Information Design.
INTRODUCTION TO FLASH FOR GRAPHIC DESIGN Students will further explore through an in depth study of the exercises learned in Message Making using the computer as the tool to create the messages. This course is an introduction to 2D digital animation concepts and techniques. Students will create animation using basic principles of design for time-based media.
ADVANCED IMAGE MANIPULATION WITH ADOBE PHOTOSHOP: Digital image processing has various applications ranging from remote sensing and entertainment to medical applications. This course explores a few major areas of digital image processing at an advanced level. Examples will be presented to give the students exposure to real-world applications.
DIGITAL ILLUSTRATION: This course helps students communicate and design with the computer as a professional tool. Using different software applications, the student will demonstrate an understanding of electronic illustration. The course will explore vector-based graphic applications that are considered to be industry standard.
TYPOGRAPHY I - TRADITIONAL: This course is an introduction of lettering skills and the history and foundation of letter-forms. The placement of display and text type in a formatted space, and the relationship between the appearance and readability of letter-forms, are also studied. Students will work in a traditional context of hand-rendering type and also be introduced to contemporary typesetting technology.
INFORMATIONAL DESIGN: Explores the theoretical and practical use of graphics as a form of visual communication. Topics include visual perception and forms, design theory, chart and graph theory, relationships between formatted text and graphics, and color and design concepts. Students will apply theory to the design of visuals in communication.
Our classroom sizes are small, and our labs include the latest in technology and software. Preparing academic curriculum and developing lesson plans is an important part of this position.
Classes are 4 hours in length and run for 11 weeks. Classes are held in the morning (8-12), afternoon (1-5) and evenings (6-10) Monday through Saturdays.
* Candidates must have a Graduate level degree in graphic design or related disciplines.
* Previous experience in teaching at a post secondary school environment or training is highly desirable.
* Must have references and a professional portfolio documenting your work.
