Jobing Description
Location: California-Redondo Beach
Optical/Electromechanical Technician for assembly and test of a high energy laser. Tasks performed will be a variety of duties in the electronic, mechanical, electromechanical, and optical areas. Constructs, troubleshoots, calibrates, adjusts, tests, and maintains equipment, components, devices, or systems. Knowledge of laser interlocks, heat exchangers, chiller systems, and general lab maintenance, is required. Fabricates and assembles new or modified mechanical components. Performs various functions such as alignment, shaping or bonding that are associated with optical components. Works from engineering drawings, as well as written or verbal instructions; uses personal computer in performance of analyses and development of documentation/reports. Able to identify impact of unforeseen problems and elevates significant problems to appropriate management personnel.
Travel
Job requires travel to Whitesands, New Mexico for extended periods of time.
Knowledge
Extensive knowledge in specialized functions. A wide and comprehensive acquaintance with, and understanding of, both general and specific aspects of the job and their practical application to complex problems and situations ordinarily encountered.
Supervision Given and Received
Minimal supervision. Work may be done without established procedures. May assist in orienting, training, assigning and checking the work of lower level employees. Often designated as a lead worker.
Typical Duties and Tasks
Duties & tasks are varied and complex. Serves as a resource to others in the resolution of problems and issues.
Consequence of Errors
Errors are very difficult to detect and would normally require significant expenditures to resolve.
Contacts
Contacts are frequent with individuals representing outside organizations, and/or individuals of significant importance within the company. Contacts involve planning and preparation of the communications, require skill, tact, persuasion and/or negotiation to accomplish the objectives of the communication.
Skills / Requirements
Basic Qualifications: High School Diploma or GED./Secret Clearance and10 years of experience.
