The Associate Director Healthcare Economics will provide hands-on analysis as well as lead, influence, and direct the work of other managers, consultants and analysts within the Medical Informatics Department. This position primarily interacts with Health Services, Affordability teams, the Lines of Service, and regional leadership to ensure a high level of customer satisfaction and to identify ways to improve the quality and affordability of healthcare. The focus of this position includes, but is not limited to, appropriate utilization, cost reduction, quality improvement, market-share growth, and customer retention.

Key job responsibilities:


  • Performs data analytics to support the strategic and operational alignment of segments and acquired entities

  • Leverages existing and ad-hoc reporting capabilities to identify trends in health plan performance and opportunities for bed day and medical expense reduction

  • Provides guidance and leadership to programmer analysts and consultants in the extraction, aggregation, and quality assurance of applicable data from multiple sources and tables in support of trend identification, root cause analysis, affordability initiative development, and validation/measurement of medical expense reduction initiatives

  • Provides consultative advice and information to senior leadership regarding: healthcare utilization & costs; affordability opportunities; reimbursement issues; clinical outcomes and population morbidity; operational planning and improvements; practice and billing patterns & variations; trends and forecasting; customer and medical group specific concerns; workforce planning and performance monitoring; vendor performance & management; data & informatics needs; emerging technologies, procedures, & health conditions; program evaluation & cost/benefit analysis

  • Provides leadership and consultative advice within the department and across the organization on statistical analyses and methods selection, sampling and weighting methods, research study design, power analysis, and interpretation of results

  • Directs the design, development, implementation, on-going improvement, and maintenance of healthcare data analysis programs and systems

  • May directly manage others

Skills / Requirements




Required:

  • Bachelor's degree

  • Minimum 5-7 years experience in healthcare data analytics

  • Industry experience programming with SAS

  • Ability to lead initiatives with minimal guidance

  • Ability to lead analyses and motivate and organize teams

  • Exceptional analytic and critical thinking skills, writing skills, communication skills, and consulting skills.

  • Ability to combine insight from data and analysis with knowledge of the industry

  • Solid technical skills and background needed to support the oversight of development and management of complex multi-platform environments

  • Ability to be flexible and adaptable within a fast paced, ever changing environment needed





  • Preferred:

  • Master's or Ph.D. in a health care related field

  • Supervisory or management experience

  • In depth understanding of some of the following: health care industry, health insurance, medical practice, population and disease management, health care data including medical coding and billing, health care administration, program evaluation methods and outcomes measurement, research design and advanced statistical methods

  • Experience analyzing very large datasets
